Upper East Side Panel Supports Crosstown Bike Lanes — Again

GH News Report: “Here’s A Real Plan To Save Some Lives-CrossTown Bike Lanes.” Originally proposed in 2016, Manhattan’s Community Board 8 tried to have three pairs of cross town bike routes put down on E 84th/85th streets, E. 77th/78th streets and E. 67th/68th streets. On July 27 of this year, 28 year old cyclist Carling Mott was tragically killed by a truck driver on E. 85th Street.The plan was never implemented due to opposition from high powered politicians including congresswoman Carolyn Maloney who just last month lost her primary election for this November’s election. Last week, by a vote of 12-2, Manhattan Community Board 8’s Transportation Committee backed a resolution asking the New York City Department of Transportation to install two-way protected bike lanes on both the east and west sides of Central Park.
